R. Crumb’s Version of Genesis

Comic book genius R. Crumb has a new book coming out. This is very exciting for me.

What’s even more exciting is that said book is his own personal version of Genesis. Not the band. The first book of the Bible. Yes. It will be very interesting to see what one of the biggest figureheads of the Underground Comix movement will do to our favorite creation myth.

As a teaser, here are some things he’s saying about the Bible and his book, according to AFP:

“The idea of millions of people taking this so seriously is totally nuts. The Bible doesn’t need to be satirised. It’s already so crazy.”

“Perhaps someone will want to kill me.”

“The Bible is not the word of God, it is the word of men. I take it all as myth from start to finish.”

He did, however, hold back a little. “”I avoided explicit sex because I didn’t want to ridicule, but you can’t ever please true believers. If you’re messing around with their sacred texts, they won’t like it.”

If you’re in LA, The Hammer will soon have an exhibition on the book, too.
