Saturday 5/4: The Nuvein Foundation for Literature and the Arts presents Vision and Voices of the Valley II: The Cultural Landscape of L.A. Poetry. Hosted by Mike ‘The Poet’ Sonksen and featuring the poetry of Jessica Wilson, Kimberly Cobian, Traci Akemi Kato-kiriyama, and Blazhia Parker. You can also sign up for the limited open mic time. 4:45 p.m. at the Fremont Centre Theatre.

Sunday 5/5: PEN Center USA presents Forbidden Fruit: A Banned Literature Showcase. Co-hosted by Peter Blake, Laura Bickford, and Darren Star, and featuring readings by John Landis, Renee Felice Smith, Tom Lutz, Julian Sands, Rumpus Contributor Natashia Deón, and Illeana Douglas. Tickets range from $125 – $175 and can be purchased at online. 4:00 p.m. at a private residence.

Monday 5/6: Joyce Carol Oates reads from The Accursed. 7:30 p.m. at Skylight Books.

Tuesday 5/7: Brando Skyhorse reads from The Madonnas of Echo Park, in Echo Park! 7:30 p.m. at Stories Books and Cafe.

Wednesday 5/8: Nathaniel Rich reads from and signs Odds Against Tomorrow. 7:30 p.m at Skylight Books.

Thursday 5/9: Rumpus Saturday Editor Zoë Ruiz host Readings with Brittany Michelson, David Rocklin, Rumpus Contributor MariNaomi, and Davy Rothbart. A $5 suggested donation will benefit 826LA. 7:30 p.m. at The Pop Hop.

Friday 5/10: Join the editor of Live Through This: On Creativity and Self-Destruction, Sabrina Chap for a reading from the book, as well as a multimedia presentation and discussion. Live Through This includes a foreword by Amanda Palmer, as well as contributions from Eileen Myles, bell hooks, Patricia Smith, and more. 7:30 p.m. at the Last Bookstore

Xach Fromson is a native Angeleno and the co-host/co-founder of Shades & Shadows, a sci-fi/fantasy/horror/etc. reading series here in LA. He studied creative writing at California State University Northridge, where he worked on The Northridge Review. He received an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of California Riverside Palm Desert Low Residency program, and is finishing his first novel. He appeared at Dirty Laundry Lit's "Love Sucks" event in February 2013, and has stories published in "Halloween Tales" and "Winter Horror Days" from Omnium Gatherum press. And once, he slew a dragon.
