Sunday 12/15: Today at the Uptown Poetry Slam, stop in for the open mic, a featured performance from Gregory Pickett, and then the slam, of course. 7 p.m., $7, The Green Mill.

Tuesday 12/17: 2nd Story has teamed up with Lakeview Orchestra to create an evening of words and music. Catch Rumpus contributor Megan Stielstra, along with Ozzie Totten and Earliana McLaurin for an evening of holiday themed compositions. 7:30 p.m., $11.54, Nettelhorst Auditorium.

If you weren’t able to get your fill of The Moth last week, they’ve bumped one of this month’s shows up due to the upcoming holidays. You can swing by for a chance to tell your true 5-minute story about home, or just drop in for a beer and to lend an ear. 8 p.m., $8, Martyrs’.

Wednesday 12/18: The third Wednesday of every month brings us Guts & Glory, live lit for the lion-hearted. 7 p.m., free (but donations for charity gratefully accepted), Powell’s.

Friday 12/20: Real Talk Live is up to the usual shenanigans. It’s a night of ladies, with Melissa DuPrey, Stevie Edwards, and Niq James as the featured performers. Bring your notebooks or instruments or singing hamsters for your chance to perform at the open mic. 8 p.m., $7, Elastic Arts.
