“Anonymous Postcard,” explains the operation’s website, “is a suggestion box for the world, designed to allow anyone to openly communicate to a third party without the complications of personal contact. Claims submitted by the public are turned into vague and largely indecipherable postcards and mailed toward the intended recipients.” The intended recipients include the state of Vermont, ATM machines, and the Sunny Valley Motel in Wolf Creek, Oregon, among many others. In a postcard sent to Apple corporation, for instance, an anonymous customer begged the company to lengthen it’s laptop power cord, lambasting it as “no longer than an umbilical cord.”
Tucker Nichols, a visual artist, founded Anonymous Postcard with his buddy Dakin Hart last summer. Half a year later, Nichols and Rumpus editor Jesse Nathan assessed the state of AP. They talked using carnival tickets, a pink typewriter, random stationary, assorted pens, and a pair of scanners. The result is this one-of-a-kind conversation.
