It feels odd to write about myself in this space, but it was said: “Jeremy! Introduce yourself!” So here I am, attempting to come up with a few gently self-deprecating words by which ye shall know me.
Before anything else, I’d like to say that, despite the appearance of my banner, I am not now and never have been a military dictator of any sort. Just wanted to get that out of the way. In fact, I’ve been a lifelong SF Bay Area / Silicon Valley resident, apart from brief periods spent in Denver and Mexico and France (to list them both chronologically and in descending order of length of stay), all places where the scope for a would-be military dictator is pretty limited, at least if you’re not from the area. And two years ago, I finally stopped resisting the gravitational pull of San Francisco itself, and made my home here — hopefully for good.
I’ve been writing about film, books, art, comics, and other things of interest online and in print since 2006, for a variety of publications. I’ve written fiction and — like just about everyone else, it seems — am supposed to be working on a novel. (You know, one of those dystopian sci-fi things, set in a blasted and ruined San Francisco.) I’m interested in how our technologies affect our daily lives and our culture. I have a thing for long quotations. I try to work hard and be nice to people. (I’m not pimping the poster; I have it on the wall above my desk.)
Finally, I’m looking for a nonfiction book to write, hopefully involving some or all of the subjects heretofore mentioned, including military dictators. Of whose numbers I am not. Suggestions welcome.
