This week, get down with The Rumpus at Hate To Be Alone, learn how to go down at Women Like Me with Carol Queen, and redefine Jewish identity at Austin Ratner’s reading for The Hub. Then, stop by the 8th annual San Francisco Green Festival so you can finally feel better about speeding up whenever you pass that Greenpeace guy by your office.
Monday 11/9: You already know this, of course, but The Rumpus is getting together with Wholphin at The Makeout Room for Hate To Be Alone, a film-filled literary shindig to remember. This month: Tamim Ansary, Ethan Gilsdorf, Melanie Gideon, Chelsea Martin, Po Bronson, Nato Green, Michael Mullen, and, as always, the chance to kiss someone you’ve never met. 7pm, $10 cheap, 21+ at The Makeout Room, 3229 22nd St.
Tuesday 11/10: Celebrate native heritage, even if it’s not your own. In honor of the first Native Americans to play professional jazz, Yoshi’s presents a Native Heritage Month Celebration with Louis-Vire Blanche & Constant Creation. 8pm, $18 advance tickets/$22 at the door, 21+, 1330 Fillmore St.
Wednesday 11/11: Do you long for a more animated life? Check out the 4th annual San Francisco International Animation Festival’s kickoff party at Mezzanine. American underground animation legend, Lawrence Jordan, will perform live with local band, Pale Hoarse, followed by performances by Jacob Ciocci and David Wightman. The evening kicks off an entire weekend of animated goodness. 8pm, 21+, 444 Jessie St.
Thursday 11/12: Get educated in a whole new way at Carol Queen’s Women Like Me seminar at the Valencia Good Vibrations. The Good Vibes staff sexologist will teach you how to give the gift that keeps on giving (or hone your existing skills), just in time for the holidays. 5.30-6.30pm at 603 Valencia St.
Friday 11/13: See a great band in a great venue: Pinback at Bimbo’s 365 Club. Bimbo’s offers the perfect David Lynch-esque atmosphere in which to sip Manhattans and enjoy the musical stylings of Armistead Burwell Smith IV (and his Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure worthy name). Doors at 8pm, $22, 18+, 1025 Columbus Ave.
Before the show though be sure to hit up Rumpus Comics Editor and all around amazing artist Paul Madonna‘s release party for his new yearly art book series: ALBUM. The reception will be at Electricworks, 6pm-8pm, at 130 8th St.
Saturday 11/14: Whether you’re Jewish or just into dreidels, stop by the Traveling Jewish Theater for a reading by Austin Ratner hosted by The Hub (and co-sponsored by The Rumpus!). The Hub aims to re-invent Jewish identity through the arts, with performances including music, literature, burlesque dancing, and magic (you weren’t expecting those last two, were you?). 8pm, $15 advance tickets/$18 at the door, 470 Florida St.
Sunday 11/15: Go green, or at least feel good about trying, at the 8th annual San Francisco Green Festival. Join fellow sustainable humans for a day of holistic healing, how-to workshops, and an inevitably large quantity of tofu. 11am at the San Francisco Exhibition Center, 635 8th St.
