Album 01

Beloved Rumpus comics editor Paul Madonna is starting a new annual art book series: Album.

The first issue in the series, Album 01, is a play on single panel cartoons. “Madonna’s large-scale (up to 50 by 60 inches) meticulously drawn pen and ink images of 1970s and 80s childhood-era toys live beyond the large two-dimensional panels hung on a gallery wall. Madonna offers the book object as portable art, stemming from his life’s career of zine and book-making, and the love of the book as a tangible, tactile art form”

Live in San Francisco? There will be a release party for Album 01 tonight at Electric Works, 130 8th Street, from 6pm to 8pm.

Isaac Fitzgerald has been a firefighter, worked on a boat, and was once given a sword by a king, thereby accomplishing three out of five of his childhood goals. Formerly of The Rumpus and McSweeney’s and most recently the founding editor of BuzzFeed Books, Isaac is now the co-host of BuzzFeed News’ Twitter Morning Show, #AMtoDM.
