“I don’t think I ever unsarcastically ‘force myself’ to do something, in that I try not to think in terms of ‘have to.’ For example I try not to say or think, ‘I have to go to work’ or ‘I have to write this essay.’ I try to view tasks as ‘wanting to.’ In part because literally I don’t ‘have to’ do anything. I could quit whatever job I have or cancel whatever thing I’m writing. I would like to view what I’m doing as what I want to be doing.”
