“Safety is our primary concern. Well, profits, then safety. Oh, no- profits, image, then safety, but still- it’s right up there.”
“You don’t go drilling 5000 feet underwater with the tools you want, you do it with the tools you have. Very basic tool logic.”
Is there anything funny about 5,000 barrels of oil spilling into the Gulf Coast daily? Leroy Stick thinks so. The pseudo-BP publicist has been twittering up a contemporary “Modest Proposal” at BPGlobalPR.
There is something beyond absurdist about BP telling their workers not to wear respirators while they work because it’s bad PR. In an open letter, Stick tells BP to “Have a respectable brand. Offer a great, innovative product and make responsible, ethical business decisions. Lead the pack! Evolve!” which, ostensibly, sounds like great advice but never really seems to work out.
Do we still believe private companies are going to act ethically w/r/t the environment? Do we really still believe we will move towards a viable cap and trade system all by our privatized ourselves? Or do we need an environmental Lenin?
