Monday 1/3: See some funny queers at QComedy‘s first show of the month. Marie Lake, Kurt Weitzmann, Nick Leonard, and “FemCee” drag queen Cookie Dough take the stage this month at the comedy show that Martuni’s hosts every first Monday of the month. $5-15 sliding scale, 21+, 7:30pm @ 4 Valencia Street.
Tuesday 1/4: Eat, drink, and be literate at this month’s Feast of Words. The reading/potluck takes place the first Tuesday of every month at SOMArts Cultural Center. This mponth’s theme: Blurred Identity. Tickets $5-12, 6:30pm @ 934 Brannan Street.
Wednesday 1/5: Today is the last day to catch SCRAP, the recycled art show at the Bethany Center. See art that reuses everyday objects and diverts tons of material away from landfills and into more creative outlets. Bethany Center, 580 Capp Street.
Thursday 1/6: Start the new year with a new wardrobe at the Museum of Craft Art’s monthly Craft Bar with Etsy Labs. Bring your old jeans and DIY them into something new, or let the ladies of Stitch n’ Bitch teach you how to knit with attitude. Free with $5 museum admission, 6-9pm @ 51 Yerba Buena Lane.
Friday 1/7: Each month, volunteer bikers plan the San Francisco Bike Party. Riders of all skill levels and ages are free to join at any time or for any of the three stops. This month, the ride starts at the Willie Mays gate of the Giants’ stadium and winds around the city through Fisherman’s Wharf and Alta Plaza Park before ending at the De Young Museum (see the full route here). Saturday 1/8: Get to White Walls gallery for the opening reception of Brooklyn-based artist Dan Witz’s show What The %$#@?. Witz’s first San Francisco show will feature over 30 trompe-l’oeil style digital media pieces in custom made frames. Witz’s work will also be showing across the streets of San Francisco, for those who know where to find it. 7pm @ 835 Larkin Street.
Sunday 1/9: Head back to SOMArts for SQUART’s New Year’s Resolutionists performance fundraiser. SQUART, short for Spontaneous Queer Performance Art, gathers performers at 6pm, breaks them into teams, gives them performance criteria, and gives them two hours to get their act together. $5-20 sliding scale donation, 6pm @ 934 Brannan Street.
