SXSW: Lack of Female Comedians

Seems as though SXSW is also experiencing a public look into gender disparity, like the literary world has recently been doing since the VIDA Count was released (nice round-up by Brian Spears here).

Comedy fans were not pleased by the line-up for the upcoming SXSW Comedy festival, which features 31 comedians, and only one is a woman.

SXSW released a statement: “Unfortunately, we had just three female comedians apply in our open process this year. We’d love to see that number increase every year. That said, we did reach out to several who just couldn’t make it work due to scheduling.”
