Monday, April 25 – Start your week off funny haha and funny queer with “Tales of the Sissy: writing queer life in the city.” Aorta Magazine presents an evening of all queer, all women writers. Jen Currin, Meliza Banales, Amanda Davidson and Anna Pulley read for your pleasure, followed by an open mic at Million Fishes Gallery, 2509 Bryant Street, 7pm, Free.
Tuesday, April 26 – Hayes Valley Farm is outdoing all the San Francisco hippy/yuppies and is celebrating Earth WEEK. All you tree-huggers have been out-hugged. Don’t feel bad, the competition was stiff: they are hosting a week of free outdoor yoga along with a calendar full of earth happy events including their Tuesday night Kitchen Garden and Potluck Workshop. Free admission to learn about growing your own food in an urban environment.
Wednesday, April 27 – The San Francisco Art Institute hosts the Teach 4 Amerika Tour. Travelling the country in a limo painted as a school bus, the Bruce High Quality Foundation lands in SF to “inspire and enable local art students to define the future of their own educational experience.” Head over to rally for the “anarchy of arts education” at SFAI’s 800 Chestnut Street location from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Later that evening, get to Viracocha for a $3 show by Eliza Rickman, Corpus Collosum and the Scarring Party. For her music video, Eliza learned how to sing her song backwards and 3xs as fast. Watch in wonder.
Thursday, April 28 – I’m pretty sure this event is going to have naked people at it. Everyone loves naked people. Go see, I have to work. Public Works, Habit SF, Sex + Design and sexyvisuals present: Undressed. 7:30pm, free until 9pm, art exhibition, live photo shoot and interactive “figure drawing session.” “The exhibit, with work featuring local Bay Area artists, presents nudity in a wide variety of mediums, including photography, prints, paintings, collages, installations and video works.”
strong>Friday, April 29 – Paul Madonna, author of All Over Coffee, beloved comics editor of The Rumpus and esteemed creator of haunting illustrations and poetic artistry, has created a new book! Everything is its own Reward is a new collection of original pen & ink illustrations by San Francisco’s favorite documenter of the poetry that surrounds us. Paul will be present and signing books at this exhibition of over 20 of his original prints at Electric Works Gallery, 130 Eighth Street, 7pm. Attendance is required.
Saturday, April 30 – Finding yourself swooning in the onslaught of spring fever? You’ll be in good company at April in Paris. French art, music and culture have inspired this all night event including accordion music, Chanson Francaise and over 7 other musical groups – late 1960’s attire encouraged. Hosted by Workspace Ltd, $10 tickets if you RSVP in advance. Tu est un petit singe! Oui Oui!
Sunday, May 1 – You guys are all a bunch of freaks. That sounds like a good excuse for a 9 block street fair to me! This year is the 12th annual How Weird Street Faire hosting all the weirdness that San Francisco is known for. Also, there is dancing. Lots and lots of dancing. Weird it up! 2nd and Howard Streets, $10 admission. See what last year’s was like.
