The Chronicle Review published an essay on the economics of unhappiness and what it means to live in a society where economic growth is considered normal. The growth patterns of our economy have made unhappiness a baseline–we’re reflecting this need to ascend in our own lives.
“The American tradition is to enshrine economic activity as a central element of “the pursuit of happiness.” In reality, however, economic activity is largely concerned with the relief of unhappiness.”
