TUESDAY 7/12: To celebrate the release of Back in the Days: Remix, 10th Anniversary Edition by Jamel Shabazz, powerHouse Arena is hosting, Under the Influence, an exhibition of Shabazz’s street photography and a group show of art inspired by hip hop. Curated by Mighty Tanaka Gallery and Royce Bannon. Tonight is the opening reception with DJ, live music, and drinks from Brooklyn Brewery. 6 p.m. Free.
Poets House presents a showcase reading with Jeanne Marie Beaumont, Joshua Harmon, Yehoshua November, and Kathleen Ossip. 7 p.m. Free.
WEDNESDAY 7/13: Monkeybicycle presents a special Lightning Round dedicated to women writers, featuring well-known and rising writers from the New York area. Hosted by Shya Scanlon. THURSDAY 7/14: Poets Ana Božičević, Jennifer Chang, and CAConrad will read at The Academy of American Poets’ Poetry from the Rooftops. The Arsenal Building at Central Park. 6:30 p.m. Free.
FRIDAY 7/15: Storyteller Leslie Goshko hosts Sideshow Goshko, featuring writers and storytellers telling bizarre tales about their lives. Featured storytellers: Margot Leitman of Comedy Central and VH1, Carter Edwards of Upright Citizens Brigade, and Dan Allen of Sacapuntas! There’s also live accordion music, trivia, and a free wine giveaway. KGB Bar. 7 p.m. Free.
SATURDAY 7/16: In April, 350 teams of filmmakers from around the world were presented with a challenge to create an original short film in 24 hours for the 24 Hours Film Race 2011. Each team was given the theme of “identity theft” and certain elements that needed to be included in the film, such as shaving cream. Tonight will be the premiere of the top 24 films and an awards ceremony. The Galapagos Art Space. 6:30 p.m. $16 in advance, $20 at the door.
SUNDAY 7/17: Spend the evening dancing to the sounds of Pink Martini, an multilingual band that plays music from around the world, including samba and jazz. Central Park Mainstage. 7 p.m. Free.
