More Google, More Problems

“A striking number of Google+ accounts have been deleted in the last 24 hours as the new social network struggles with its community standards policy around real names…”

Over at ZDNet, Violet Blue has a roundup of what looks to be a significant misstep for Google. Some users are reporting that all their Google services have been shut down, while others are reporting that just their Google+ account has been closed.

Looking through my account, it does appear they’ve shut down profiles for a couple of small presses and magazines who are “in my circles” (I do feel ridiculous saying that). That’s not cool.

Personally, I hope they sort it out. I like Google+ quite a lot, at least so far, but this is going to scare a lot of people away, including me, at least for a little while.

  1. Here’s an interesting post from Robert Scoble derived from a conversation he had with Google VP Vic Gundotra about the matter:

    https://plus.google.com/u/0/111091089527727420853/posts/Fddn6rV8mBX

He takes responsibility for what’s going on and admits that some mistakes were made, but that they’re trying to improve the process.
