MONDAY 7/25: Smith Magazine presents I’m Only Popular During Summer Camp, with participants giving their Six-Word Memoirs related to summer time, then taking six minutes to tell the backstories to the memoirs. The line-up: Ann Leary, Susan Blackwell, Joe Iconis, Deborah Copaken Kogan, and Josh Wolk. Also includes a Six-Word slam. 92Y Tribeca. 7 p.m. $10 in advance, $12 at the door.
TUESDAY 7/26: Poets House presents a Showcase Reading with Rachel Eliza Griffiths, Albert Mobilio, Jena Osman, and Evie Shockley. 7 p.m. Free.
WEDNESDAY 7/27: BOMB Magazine celebrates issue #116 with a special event featuring readings from BOMB contributors Nicholas Elliott, Sarah V. Schweig, and Simon Van Booy. Also featuring a theatrical piece directed by Richard Maxwell and starring Obie Award-winning actor Scott Shepherd. Raffles, poster giveaways, and drinks. powerHouse Arena. 6:30 p.m. Free.
THURSDAY 7/28: Dana Rossi hosts The Soundtrack Series, where artist-writers tell stories they associate with a specific song. Tonight features Andy Christie, Eugene Ashton-Gonzalez, Isaac Butler, Laura Smith, and Jeremy Mather. The Gallery at Le Poisson Rouge. 6:30 p.m. Free.
FRIDAY 7/29: Tonight go check out an outdoor screening of animated shorts at the Animation Block Party, featuring international cartoons from students and professionals from around the world. Also featuring music from LIPS. Rooftop Films at Automotive High School. Doors at 8 p.m. Live music at 8:30 p.m. Films at 9 p.m. $10. (After party at Matchless.)
SATURDAY 7/30 & SUNDAY 7/31: Spend your weekend checking out readings from more than 100 poets at the First Annual New York Poetry Festival. Featuring poets representing louderARTS, the Bowery Poetry Club, Son of Pony, the Nuyorican, Southern Writers, Blue Flower Arts, KGB Bar, and more. There’ll be lots of food, drinks, and crafts available, too. Governors Island. Noon to 5 p.m. Free.
