Those of us with life-long bridge phobias probably wish we could un-see this news. According to yesterday’s “Transportation for America” report, one in nine bridges in the U.S. are “structurally deficient,” which means that “each day the volume of travelers who use deficient bridges in the United States far outnumbers the customers served by McDonald’s worldwide.”
And this might be why: “Left to their own devices, many states plow resources into sprawl-inducing road expansions while leaving the maintenance of existing structures untended.” C’mon states.
