THURSDAY 11/10: Storyteller Leslie Goshko hosts an evening of original poetry and music with poetic team Kick Assonance: Kyle Erickson, Steven Leyva, and Christian Ericson, as they present original readings and music from up-and-coming artists. Nuyorican. 7 p.m. $10, $8 pre-sale or with student ID.

FRIDAY 11/11: Author/activist Arundhati Roy, writer Pankaj Mishra, and anthropologist Mohamad Junaid will discuss Kashmir, exploring the causes and consequences of the armed conflict and the book Kashmir: The Case for Freedom, which examines the right of self-determination of the Kashmiri people. SATURDAY 11/12: Horror films have exploded in popularity since September 11, 2001. Why did horror become so popular in the wake of events so horrific that many pundits initially predicted the death of the genre? And what do our horror films say about us? Co-editors Sam J. Miller and Aviva Briefel will host a release party for their new anthology, Horror After 9/11, which will also feature contributors to the anthology. They anthology will discuss horror films, the War on Terror, Iraq, Afghanistan, Guantanamo Bay, immigration, LGBT liberation, and more. Bluestockings Bookstore. 2 p.m. Free.
Today and tomorrow, take the opportunity to visit the New York Botanical Garden’s Thain Family Forest and participate in Poem Forest, a 15-minute meditative walk designed by Jon Cotner, co-author of Ten Walks/Two Talks. Cotner has fused lines selected from 2500 years of nature poetry with Thain Forest’s autumnal landscape. At 15 spots along Sweetgum Trail, visitors will speak, sing, or engage with 15 lines of poetry from different poets. Noon. Admission is free with All Garden Pass admission to the Botanical Garden.
SUNDAY 11/13: The KGB Bar Sunday Night Fiction will feature Men Undressed, Girls in Trouble. Author Douglas Light will read from his short story collection, Girls in Trouble, and contributors to Men Undressed: A Collection of 28 Fiction Women Writers and the Male Sexual Experience, Rosebud Ben-Oni, A.M. Homes, and Tawni O’Dell, will also read. 7 p.m.
