Monday 11/7: USF hosts Matthea Harvey reading from her new work, Of Lamb. Her work has been reviewed by George Saunders as a ‘vision of America [that is] spooky, apocalyptic, and beautiful: proof that there is wonder in even a dark time like ours.” Free, 7:30pm.
Tuesday 11/8: The SF public library is sponsoring ‘write-ins’ for November’s National Novel Writing Month, featuring ‘drinks, snacks and peer pressure.’ Free all day at the Presidio Branch
Wednesday 11/9: The Booksmith hosts the launch party of Peter Orner’s Love and Shame and Love, a novel that “illuminates the countless ways that love both makes us whole and completely unravels us.” Free, 7:30pm. LitUp Writers hits 111Minna Gallery with Unwrapped and Regifted: Stories About the Holidays featuring holiday themed ridiculousness written by eight writers from all over. Free 7-10pm, with a $25 gift for winners of the concurrent Ugly Holiday Sweater competition.
Thursday 11/10: MoMA hosts a book signing for the 30 year anniversary volume of Blek le Rat’s work. Free, 6:30-8pm. Public Works has a rare free party (before 11pm).
Friday 11/11: YBCA presents Manila Manila! an evening of readings and short films reflecting conflict and unity in Filipino and Filipino American cultures. Featuring R. Zamora Linmark reading from his latest, Leche, and a screening of Jet Leyco’s Patlang. Free, 7pm. Southern Exposure is opening Working Conditions, a 2 month process-oriented exhibition with local artists installing by day, under the watchful gaze and in the potentially collaborative company of…us. Free, 7-9pm.
Saturday 11/12: The Make Out Room hosts Writers With Drinks, featuring Cecil Castellucci, Leah Lakshmi Piepzna-Samarashina, Samhita Mukhopadhyay, Alison Moon and Alvin Orloff. 7:30-9pm, sliding scale.
Sunday 11/13: KUSF radio hosts its annual rock ‘n swap-featuring records, posters, and other musical rarities from the caves of USF’s stores. Participants are also welcome to come with their own memorabilia ready to exchange. 10am-3pm Free for students, $3 for the rest of us.
