Tuesday 11.15: The SF Main Public Library screens We Still Live Here, documenting the Wampanoag of Cape Cod reflecting on the American tradition of Thanksgiving and the revival of the Wampanoag language a century after the last native speaker passed. Free, 5:45. Write Club, the city’s literary ‘blood sport,’ is back at it with a group of seasoned writers going head to head for our approval and a wad of cash to support the winner’s charity of choice. 7pm, the Make-Out Room.
Wednesday 11/16: Mission based community lending library Ourshelves presents Excerpts, an open invitation to read from a favorite piece of literature or poetry. 8-11pm, $3-$7 suggested donation.
Thursday 11/17: Things I’ll Never Say: Growing Up Undocumented in the United States is a moving volume of autobiographical stories from the lives of college students nationwide, sponsored by Educators for Fair Consideration: “Together, their narratives create a sense of a young immigrant’s journey: departure, crossing, arrival, alienation, and attempts at claiming a new home. ” Free 6:30pm, Booksmith.
Friday 11/18: Mike Weiss reads from Double Play: The Hidden Passions Behind the Double Assassination of George Moscone and Harvey Milk. Featuring poetry by Jack Hirschman and screenings of rare footage of both Milk and Moscone from 1978. Free, 7pm, The Double Play. The Clowns at the Booksmith hold a reading and discussion in solidarity with the Occupy SF and Oakland movements. Yup, Clowns: “Come get a clown’s perspective on foreclosures, the widening economic gap, integrity in business, and using the Internet to fuel revolution.” $10 suggested donation, all profits go to Occupy SF and Oakland. 8pm.
Saturday 11/19: MissRepresentation covers the gross under-representation of articulate, powerful in mainstream media. Screening at the Berkeley Unitarian Church and again in SF on December 4. 7pm
Sunday 11/20: The Thread Indie Design show is back at the Metreon. 11am-5pm.
