Monday 12/5: Chicano poet and critic Luis J. Rodruiguez reads at CCSF’s Mission campus, reflecting on his widely read Always Running and its sequel, It Calls You Back. Free, 7pm. Quiet Lightning has been giving San Francisco a monthly “mash-up of fiction, statement and poetry that weaves varying patterns of language into a cohesive work of art” and publishing each production as a book for two years. Celebrate with the team tonight at their anniversary, happens tonight at Beat Box. Readers include Andrew Sean Greer, Siamak Vossoughi, Cassandra Gorgeous, and Mira Martin-Parker. $5, 7:30pm.
Tuesday 12/6: Jean Dearst explores the novel notion of being a writer without the ruin in her witty memoir, Fiction Ruined my Family. Free, 7pm. Opera Plaza. New York-based musician and songwriter Julia Weldon has been described as the “love-sound-child of Dylan and DiFranco, Bright Eyes and Cat Power,” and she’s playing at El Rio tonight, 8pm.
Wednesday 12/7: Dorkbot SF, holder of ‘events where people do strange things with electricity,’ closes out the year with Mini Golf Apocalypse. Free, donations happily accepted.
Thursday 12/8: Join the Bold Italic for the celebration of the Inner Richmond at ClemenTime, co-hosted by Green Apple Books. Featuring wine, chocolate, and discounts up and down the street. 6-8pm. ZYZZYVA‘s Winter issue drops with a party at the Booksmith tonight, 7:30.
Friday 12/9: Support local entrepreneurs and sample hundreds of bold local flavors at La Cocina’s Gift Bazaar in the Mission Cultural Center. Free, 5-9pm.
Saturday 12/10: Dusty Stax and the Bold Italic host a Winter Formal at the Verdi Club featuring a ridiculously diverse mix of San Francisco talent, including Heidi Alexander of The Sandwitches and Shannon Shaw (Hunx and His Punx). Music and dress code inspired by 60’s soul. 8pm, RSVP recommended.
Sunday 12/11: Get away from the huge warehouse craft sales with the Noise Pop Holiday Shop, featuring work by 25 local artisans and designers at Bottom of the Hill. 12-5pm.
