WEDNESDAY 2/08: The Poetry Society of America hosts Gregory Orr on Poetry as Survival. Orr will be in conversation with Arts in Mind curator Joshua Wolf Shenk and Donald Rosen, the CEO and Medical Director of the Austen Riggs Center. The New School’s Arnold Hall. 8 p.m. Free.
THURSDAY 2/09: Bernice L. McFadden will read from her new book, Gathering of Waters, at The Center for Fiction. 7 p.m. Free.
FRIDAY 2/10: Just Working on My Novel reading series is asking memoir and fiction writers to share their breakup stories at February’s installment. 10-minute time limit. Hosted by rapper, singer, writer Jean Grae. WORD. 7 p.m. Free.
SATURDAY 2/11: It’s the 50th Anniversary of A Wrinkle in Time. Writers Rebecca Stead, When You Reach Me; R.L. Stine, Goosebumps, Fear Street; Katherine Paterson, Bridge to Terabithia; and Lois Lowry, The Giver, will discuss the Newbery Medal-winning classic. The discussion will be moderated by NYPL Children’s Librarian and Fuse #8 blogger Betsy Bird and also featuring a special introduction by children’s book historian Leonard Marcus and a performance of excerpts from the book by actress Jane Curtin and others. SUNDAY 2/12: An anti-Valentine’s Day screening and look at relationships at Phantasma: Four Short Films by Four Directors.
