Wednesday 2/8: Micah Ballard reads from his newest release, Waifs and Strays, a book of poetry centered on New Orleans and San Francisco: “Elegiac, elusive, evocative, the poems roam an urban landscape of bars, books, and chance encounters, where the ghosts of Congo Square haunt the avenues of the Fillmore.” Free, 5pm USF.
Thursday 2/9: Krys Lee reads from Drifting House, a collection of short stories about Korean immigrants displaced to foreign lands: “As they sift through the emotional wreckage left by civil war, political brutalities, financial collapse, and the prosaic details of getting by in places they’re unwelcome, the individuals in Drifting House reach for resilience amid nearly unimaginable hardship.” Free, Book Passage.
Friday 2/10: Booksmith presents Literary Clown Foolery, an evening of burlesque, comedy, and live music. Featuring Bi-Rite Market’s Sam Mogannam, co-author of Eat Good Food: A Grocer’s Guide to Shopping, Cooking & Creating Community Through Food. 8pm, $10.
Saturday 2/11: Writers With Drinks is at the Make Out Room with tonight’s featured authors Maureen McHugh, Keely Hyslop, Broke-Ass Stewart, Ayize Jama-Everett, and Vanessa L. Pinto. 7:30pm, $5-10. Needles & Pensl a Mission-based gallery dedicated to providing affordable space for the d.i.y. community’s goods, zines, and art, hosts the launch of Kelly Ordig’s Paths and Ways. Free, 7pm.
