Monday 5/14: Brick and Mortar holds a free ‘somewhat’ acoustic concert series featuring Luke Sweeny’s Wet Dreams, Dry Magic, Nick Campbell, and the Human Condition. 8pm.
Tuesday 5/15: Pity the Beautiful, Dana Gioia’s recently released volume, is the poet’s first in over a decade: “Its emotional revelations and careful construction are hard won, inventive, and resilient.” Free, 7:30pm, the Booksmith.
Wednesday 5/16: The Painted Word opens at Meridian Gallery, featuring visual works by poets including William Saroyan, Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Jack Hirschman, William S. Burroughs, Henry Miller, and others. Free, 6pm. ‘
Thursday 5/17: So You Think You Can Paint is the Club Six happy hour inviting you and yours to join in in creating major murals before 11pm, fueled by drink specials + DJ’s. Admission is free, drinks $3.
Friday 5/18: The Red Vic opens for an evening benefit for the San Francisco Writer’s Grotto, a community of creatives who freelance, and 826 Valencia. Featuring storytelling, poetry, dancing, and more. $10, 8pm.
Saturday 5/19: NEA Creative Writing Fellow Aimee Phan reads from The Reeducation of Cherry Truong, her debut novel narrating three generations of a Vietnamese family displaced to the States by the Vietnam War. Free, 2:30pm, SF Public Library Chinatown/Him Mark Lai branch.
Sunday 5/20: Armistead Maupin reads some of his most loved installments of Tales of the City, the iconic series begun in 1976. Free, ($5 suggested donation), Grace Cathedral, 9:30am. Followed by B2B.
