This week in San Francisco . . .
Monday 8/6 – Quiet Lightening will be having a reading at the Conservatory of Flowers as part of their summer series The Greenhouse Effect. Doors open at 6:30pm so people can peruse the assorted flora and fauna before the 7:30pm show.
Tuesday 8/7 – Head down to the Civic Center for an all day Olympic Viewing Party, put on by the San Francisco Parks and Recreation Department. The London Olympics will be broadcast live from 9:00am to 4:00 pm, free for everyone.
Wednesday 8/8 – Very salacious stories to be heard at Bawdy Storytelling, a monthly spoken word event intended for adult audiences. This month’s event will be held at the Verdi Club at 8:00 pm, the theme being ‘Go Big or Go Home.’
Thursday 8/9 – Every Thursday at the 16th & Mission Bart Station you can find an impromptu poetry slam. Show up at 9:00pm to perform or simply listen. For kids there’s a weekly story hour at Paxton Gate’s Curiosities for Kids at 11:00am.
Saturday 8/11 – Hear tales of all things Muni-related at the Elbo Room’s Muni Diaries Live! 7:00pm – 9:00pm. Or go to The Make-Out Room’s event Writers with Drinks, with readings and performances by Jane McGonigal, Saqib Mausoof, Rachel Swirsky, and Simon Sheppard. All proceeds of the event go to a local non-profit. 7:30 to 9:30 pm.
Sunday 8/12 – Sunday marks the last day of Outside Lands, the inescapably large musical festival with headliners like Stevie Wonder and Neil Young & Crazy Horse. Tickets are sold out but the concert’s Golden Gate Park sprawl always allows for the opportunity to hear residual music from the far corners of the city.
