Choire Sicha writes about the visual evolution of the internet over at The Awl.
Sicha discusses the fact that advertisements are being woven into the content of websites, such as promoted tweets from a corporation being plopped to the top of one’s twitter feed. The question at hand is whether or not these advertisements can be used in a positive way:
“There are really good ways to do it, I think, and I think over the next three months we’ll be doing a better job with it! I even believe, particularly in the cases of “brought-to-you-by” sponsored editorial “content,” that readers and viewers of good things are often happy to see that a sponsor paid for it to exist! It also really helps if you try to only take good advertising, that’s a good match for where it’s published.”
