Monday 10/15: Lit Slam, a “a live audience-curated poetry phenomenon” taking place regularly throughout the Bay Area, presents Chicago-based Jamila Woods for its final show of the season. $5, 8pm at Viracocha.
Tuesday 10/16: Two staples of San Francisco’s literary community host events tonight. Write Club presents “literature as bloodsport,” with two authors competing for audience approval in the arena of the Make Out Room. $5, 7pm. For food and community, check out Feast of Words, hosted by the SOMArts center. This month featuring Anna Pulley alongside other local writers and chefs. Sliding scale, 7pm.
Wednesday 10/17: Magnet hosts the last Smack Dab queer open mic night of the year. Featuring decorated local writers Belo Cipriani and Jim Provenzano. All ages and genders welcome. Free, 8pm.
Thursday 10/18: Local poet James Miller reads from Going off the Pavement, a collection of poetry and photography described as “great wisdom from an elder to any men open to listening and still in love with life. ” Free, 7pm at Green Apple Books.
Friday 10/19: Beat Punks presents spoken word by Penelope Houston (of the Avengers), Chris D (of L.A.’s the Flesh Eaters) and Bucky Sinister at Awaken in Oakland. $5, 7pm.
Saturday 10/20: El Rio celebrates 34 years in the Mission with all day drink specials, food, bands, and no cover. 3pm-closing.
Sunday 10/21: KPFA hosts Amy Goodman of Democracy Now! for “The Silenced Majority: Stories of Uprisings, Occupations, Resistance, and Hope.” $15, 7pm.
