Monday 11/26: Novelist and “media inventor” Robin Sloan discusses Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore, a “tale of code-breaking, high-tech data visualization, global conspiracy, young love, and typography — mostly set in a hole-in-the-wall North Beach bookstore.” Free, 6pm Arion Press.
Tuesday 11/27: The JDC hosts Inside Jewish Shanghai, a photo exhibit and in-depth look at the Shanghai Ghetto during WWII and the Jewish community of Shanghai today. Free, 7pm 4 Embarcadero Center.
Wednesday 11/28: Granta and the Center for the Art of Translation launch Granta 121: Best of Young Brazilian Novelists and Passageways, the 19th installation of the Center’s annual anthology of literature and poetry in translation. Free, 7pm Green Apple Books.
Thursday 11/29: Peter Orner launches the second edition of his Love and Shame and Love, described as a work that “strips every layer of pretense from [its] characters, not to diminish but rather to reveal them.” Free, 7:30pm the Booksmith.
Friday 11/30: The Bazaar Cafe hosts Alan Monasch and Alex Jimenez in a free songwriting showcase. 7Pm, Free.
Saturday 12/1: Joining Hands and The Middle East Children’s Alliance present the tenth Palestinian handcrafted gifts bazaar. Come here before you get all bazaar’d out for the season to purchase live wood, olive oil, scarves, embroidery, hand blown glassware from Hebron, hand woven rugs, ceramics from Jerusalem + Gaza, cookbooks, children’s books, and more.
