Tuesday 3/5: The Al-Mutanabbi Street Coalition was founded after a car bomb went off in 2007 on Baghdad’s Al-Mutanabbi street, and commemorates “not just the tragic loss of life, but also the idea of a targeted attack on a street where ideas have always been exchanged.” Join the coalition’s annual celebration tonight, with readings by poets and writers, a film screening and exhibition of fifty-four artists’ books. Wednesday 3/6: Head to Sacred Grounds for the longest running open mic in San Francisco, this week featuring Ricardo Luna Butler and Dan Brady. Free, 7pm.
Thursday 3/7: Ourshelves, San Francisco’s community lending library, holds its monthly audience-curated Excerpts series. Bring your favorite passage of literature or poetry, take a sip of something onstage, and share. $5 suggested, proceeds benefit library building in shelters throughout the city. 8pm, Viracocha.
