At the intersection of Eastern and Western culture, male and female, past and present, lies a rich and bewildering confluence of identities.
Chan-Hyo Bae explores that nexus in his photography series Existing in Costume, pictures from which are currently featured on Slate‘s photo blog. Bae explains:
“I sought to reduce my own alienation, which related to cultural and linguistic differences by affiliating myself with women, who belong to the opposite gender group to my own. In seeing to assimilate myself to this group, I expressed my desire to escape the experience of alienation.”
