Spotlight: Alexander Rothman

If comics are sequential art—art that tells a story using a sequence of images—then Alexander Rothman’s work is, to use his term, “sequential verse.” He roots around in the intersection of comics and poetry, testing out the linguistic elements of visual art and the visual elements of the words that accompany it.

Alexander Rothman is a poet and cartoonist. His work has appeared in the Seneca Review, Moonshot Magazine, The Brooklyn Rail, Used Gravitrons, and online at The The. He and the author Joshua Malbin cohost Comics for Grownups, a podcast available for free on iTunes. More work can be found at his website, Versequential. He lives in Queens, New York, with the illustrator Andrea Tsurumi.
