If you read Robert Galbraith’s debut novel, a detective thriller called The Cuckoo’s Clock, and thought it was remarkably well constructed for a first-timer, you weren’t alone.
Nor were you incorrect: the actual author has been revealed to be J. K. Rowling, whom you may remember as the author of some children’s books about a wizard or something.
The funniest part of the revelation is learning that people’s “suspicions were aroused by the author’s assured writing style and skill at describing women’s clothes and people’s appearances.” Apparently people’s appearances are beyond male writers’ abilities.
Good on Rowling for challenging herself to write new things without relying on her fame!
