Punk rock had exploded in New York City and the U.K., but kids in the Southern Hemisphere probably had to pay a lot of money to buy imports or have records shipped from the north.
Charting in Australian in 1978 were bands like Bee Gees, Wings, and Leif Garrett. Finding punk on the radio was most likely a nightmare, and it was lots of digging, research, and hanging out with friends at their places to listen to records.
In this murky landscape, a wave of punk bands Down Under emerged, including The Boys Next Door.
Here they are, including Mick Harvey and Nick Cave, with no clue they had a future of more than three decades in front of them, collaborating with amazing musicians and developing a dedicated following of Bad Seeders:

There were Nick and Mick, earnest, hungry, and ready to leave Australia for Europe to eventually form the Bad Seeds.
Another reason this is our Nick Cave Monday is because women in short dresses and boots wiggling around is so sexy:
Lee Hazelwood wrote the song for Nancy Sinatra. Is there a way we can transport these ladies to 2013? I’ll house them; they could be my roommates. We’ll have a shimmy hour at noon every day. Is that what heaven is like?
The lesson we learn today is that Nick Cave looks great in eyeliner and I have a thing for legs.
Thanks for reading, and come back next week for another edition of Nick Cave Monday.
