You may remember from earlier this year a much-discussed New York Times Magazine piece about The Canyons, the super-low-budget film wrought from the unlikely combination of writer Bret Easton Ellis, director Paul Schrader, porn star James Deen, and troubled-as-ever actress Lindsay Lohan.
With the movie about to hit both theaters and video-on-demand platforms, Deen did an interview with Salon about working with the aforementioned people and the ways the mainstream film industry differs from the adult film industry both socially and artistically:
…mainstream people are motivated by things like glitz, glamor, fame, money. The true artists exist, but there are also plenty of the opposite — people a little less awesome. People’s primary motivation in the adult world is that they really like sex.
