Monday 9/23: Peter Mehlman and Richard Kramer come to discuss their experiences, tips, and tricks at From TV to Books and Back. 7 p.m. at Book Soup.

Tuesday 9/24: Literary Death Match returns to L.A. after a globe-hopping tour. Featuring judges Nina Hartley and Kumail Nanjiani, and readers Wanda Coleman, Antonio Sacre, and Marisa Matarazzo, plus one reader and judge TBA. Hosted by LDM creator Adrian Todd Zuniga. Doors open at 7 p.m. at Busby’s East. $7 preorder or $10 at the door. This event is 21+.

Wednesday 9/25: Amelia Gray and Nick Antosca join forces for a literary evening. 7:30 p.m. at Stories Books and Cafe.

Thursday 9/26: The L.A. Zine Fest presents Zinextravaganza! Featuring readings from writers, performers, and zinesters. Rumpus contributor MariNaomi, Rumpus managing editor Zoë Ruiz, Dylan A. Doren, Tomas Moniz, Jaylee Alde, Brodie Foster Hubbard, Jessica Garrison, and Bianca Barragan. 7 p.m. at The Last Bookstore.

The Art Movement reading series presents Heaven Knows I’m Miserable Now, an evening of poems and stories in honor of/related to The Smiths and Morrissey. This month, South El Monte Arts Posse hosts Xochitl-Julisa Bermeo, Carribean Fragoza, Kenji Liu, and Vickie Vertiz. 8 p.m. at Florentino’s Italian & Mexican Restaurant. Facebook event page here.

Friday 9/27: Join editor Andrew Tonkovich for a Santa Monica Review launch party. He’ll introduce you to three contributors: Andrew Nicholls, g. c. cunningham, and Ryan Ridge. 7:30 p.m. at Skylight Books.

Saturday 9/28: First Second Books presents Fairy Tale Comics: Classic Tales Told By Extraordinary Cartoonists. Join Vanessa Davis , Gigi D.G., and Bobby London as they discuss their contributions to this fantastic guide to some of your favorite fairy tales. 5 p.m. at Skylight Books.

Shades & Shadows is a new reading series and launches tonight! Steven-Elliot Altman, Gretchen McNeil, Chris Farnsworth, Jennifer Bosworth, Coburn Hawk, and Ross Helford will be reading from their work. Hosted by Xach Fromson (me) and Lauren Candia. 8 p.m. at the California Institute of Abnormalarts. $10 at the door.

Sunday 9/29: The West Hollywood Book Fair is upon us! Come out for a full day of literary extravagance! It all goes down at the West Hollywood Park and Library.

Xach Fromson is a native Angeleno and the co-host/co-founder of Shades & Shadows, a sci-fi/fantasy/horror/etc. reading series here in LA. He studied creative writing at California State University Northridge, where he worked on The Northridge Review. He received an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of California Riverside Palm Desert Low Residency program, and is finishing his first novel.
