Thursday 10/17: Los Angeles Review of Books print edition launch party will feature Maria Bustillos, Alex Espinosa, Ariana Kelly, and Marjorie Perloff reading from their works included in the review. 7:30 p.m. at Skylight Books.

It’s Halloween season! Spooky Storytelling Night brings you tales of spectres, spirits, and spies featuring Bryan Brown and Olya Petrakova, Steven Calcote, Monica Howe, Ian MacKinnon, Lisa Morton, Ken Page, Lara Parker, Andrew Ramirez, James Riley, Corey Roskin, Jeffrey Wylie, WriteGirl, and host Rosalind Helfland. 7:30 p.m. at The Last Bookstore.

Homo-Centric returns for their October engagement with a Halloween twist. Hosted by Hank Henderson. 7:30 p.m. at Stories Books and Cafe.

Friday 10/18: Poet Robert Krut reads from his award winning collection “This Is the Ocean” with readings by Sarah Maclay and Wendy C. Ortiz. 7:30 p.m. at Stories Books and Cafe.

Saturday 10/19: The Norton Anthology of Postmodern Poetry celebrates its new edition with a reading featuring editor Paul Hoover, Will Alexander, Wanda Coleman, Noah Eli Gordon, Rae Armantrout, Vanessa Place, and Brian Kim Stefans. 4 p.m. at The Last Bookstore.

A Bizarro literary spectacular with Francesca Lia Block presenting The Elementals, Cody Goodfellow, Laura Lee Bahr, and John Skipp celebrating the release of Eraserhead Press’ new anthology In Heaven Everything is Fine: Fiction inspired by David Lynch and The Last Goddam Hollywood Movie. 7:30 p.m. at Stories Books and Cafe.

Sunday 10/20: The Great Beyond Open Reading and the 4th Annual Beyond Baroque Poetry Contest Reading offer a one-two punch of poetry for your Sunday enjoyment. The Great Beyond Open Reading is a chance for younger poets to read. Hosted by Jessica Ceballos. Sign-ups start at 1:45 p.m. and readings begin at 2:00 p.m. Then the 4th Annual Beyond Baroque Poetry Contest Reading features the winners and runners up for the poetry contest. 5:00 p.m. at Beyond Baroque. Both events are free, but donations are encouraged.

Xach Fromson is a native Angeleno and the co-host/co-founder of Shades & Shadows, a sci-fi/fantasy/horror/etc. reading series here in LA. He studied creative writing at California State University Northridge, where he worked on The Northridge Review. He received an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of California Riverside Palm Desert Low Residency program, and is finishing his first novel.
