“Masterpiece” is the first-ever talent show for aspiring writers and debuted in Italy. In this talent show, contenders will live write on different themes and the winning contestant will receive a publishing deal with Bompiani, a major Italian publishing company.
Tom Rachman at The New York Times visited the production and took some time to talk to the judging panel:
“Italy is a country where people read less and less — they’re publishing more books and selling fewer,” Mr. De Cataldo lamented. “The book is dying, and we must do everything we can to save it. Even a talent show.”
