Monday 12/9: Author Jonathan Franzen comes to the Bookshop Santa Cruz to discuss and sign copies of his new book,The Kraus Project: Essays by Karl Kraus. Free, 7 p.m.

Tuesday 12/10: InsideStorytime THE FIX features Joe Clifford (Junkie Love), Zarina Zabrisky (We, Monsters), Roy Mash (Buyer’s Remorse), Emily Meg Weinstein (Lake Celeste or the Joy of Sex), and Sean Labrador y Manzano, with MC James Warner (All Her Father’s Guns). Wednesday 12/11:  The San Francisco Public Library hosts a reading and discussion of Daniel Alarcón’s latest novel At Night We Walk in Circles, followed by a book sale and signing hosted by Modern Times Bookstore. Free, 7 p.m at Mission Branch Library.

Thursday 12/12: At the Queer Smut: Best Lesbian Erotica 2014 Release Party, listen to readings from the 2014 collection selected and introduced by Sarah Schulman and edited by Kathleen Warnock. $20, 7 p.m. at the Center for Sex and Culture.

Friday 12/13:  University Press Books/Berkeley celebrates 39 years of bookselling with a 40th Anniversary Benefit Reading featuring C.S. Giscombe, Robert Hass, Lyn Hejinian, Brenda Hillman, Geoffrey G. O’Brien, and art by Vita Wells. $40, 7 p.m. at UPB in Berkeley.

Saturday 12/14: The SFSU Poetry Center’s George Oppen Memorial Lecture presents poet, critic, and editor, Joseph Donahue at the Meridian Gallery. $10 ($5 low income; free to SFSU students and Poetry Center members), 7:30 p.m.

Sunday 12/15: Zubair Ahmed reads from his debut collection of poems City of Rivers, as part of Lunch Poems, a Noontime Poetry Reading Series. Free, 12:10 p.m. Morrison Library in Doe Library at UC Berkeley.
