Tuesday 1/21: Joe Nelms discusses and signs The Last Time I Died. 7:00 p.m. at Book Soup.

Wednesday 1/22: Poetry reading by Michael Palmer and Joyelle McSweeney. 7:30 p.m. at Otis College of Art and Design.

Thursday 1/23: READINGS is back for the new year with readings by Steph Cha, Chiwan Choi, Ben Loory, and Yumi Sakugawa.  Music by John Isaac Waters. Hosted by Zoë Ruiz. 7:30 p.m. at Stories Books and Cafe. $5 suggested donation that will benefit The Rumpus (that’s us!).

The Loudest Voice presents readings by Chad Sweeney, Andrew Allport, Kate Folk, Jessica Piazza, and Trinie Dalton. 8:00 p.m. at Verdugo Bar.

Friday 1/24: R. Steven Johnson reads from his highly anticipated book, Convertible Chocolate, at the book’s release party. The event will also feature other guest speakers. 7:00 p.m. at The Last Bookstore.

Saturday 1/25: Gerald Locklin, Wendy Rainey, and Shannon Phillips read from their latest works. 8:00 p.m. at Beyond Baroque.

Sunday 1/26: The 2014 PEN Center Emerging Voices Welcome Party celebrates this year’s Emerging Voices Fellows, Brandon Brown, Marci Carillo, Hanne Steen, Margaret Spilman, Andres Reconco, and Victor Vazquez. Join them and their mentors, Leslie Brody, Trinie Dalton, Douglas Kearney, James Meetze, Melanie Thorne, and Hector Tobar. 6:30 p.m. at Spin LA at The Standard Downtown.

Xach Fromson is a native Angeleno and the co-host/co-founder of Shades & Shadows, a sci-fi/fantasy/horror/etc. reading series here in LA. He studied creative writing at California State University Northridge, where he worked on The Northridge Review. He received an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of California Riverside Palm Desert Low Residency program, and is finishing his first novel. He appeared at Dirty Laundry Lit's "Love Sucks" event in February 2013, and has stories published in "Halloween Tales" and "Winter Horror Days" from Omnium Gatherum press. And once, he slew a dragon.
