In our interview with Molly Antopol, when discussing readership of Israeli literature in the United States, Antopol says, “I have all these smart friends who love books and love international fiction, and whenever we talk about Israeli literature, it’s Etgar Keret, Amos Oz, and David Grossman—I feel like it’s those three. And it’s all men. It’s fascinating to me, because in Israel there are so many incredible, really important female writers that just are not in the conversation here in the States.”
And she is not the only one who thinks so. An article from Pacific Standard tells us that “only three percent of everything published in the U.S. each year is translated from another language.”
