Monday 2/24: A release party for J.S. Breukelaar’s American Monster, also featuring readings by Ben Loory, Jim Ruland, Rumpus managing editor Zoë Ruiz, Cecil Castellucci, and John Skipp. 7:00 p.m. at Stories Books and Cafe.

The Otis College Reading Series presents readings by Bridgette Bianca, Justin Evans, Amanda Katz, and Victor Yates. 7:00 p.m. at the Lighting Studio at the Galef Building at Otis College.

Tuesday 2/25: Literary Death Match is teaming up with the Los Angeles Review of Books to kick off its 2014 Los Angeles series. Susan Orlean, Kristin Newman, Brendan Constantine, and Chris L. Terry will compete in front of judges Diablo Cody, Molly Shannon, and Stephen Tobolowsky. Hosted by LDM creator Adrian Todd Zuniga. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., show starts at 8:05 p.m. at Largo. Tickets are $30. The show is sold out.

Cecil Castellucci reads from Tin Star. 7:30 p.m. at Skylight Books.

Wednesday 2/26: Kristina Wong is doing a performance/lecture of work-in-progress research for her new work Notes-in-Process: The Wong Street Journal. Presented by Writ Large Press and DTLAB. Also hosted by Chiwan Choi and Peter Woods. 8:00 p.m. at the Grand Star Jazz Club. $5-$20 pay-what-you-can.

Thursday 2/27: Jennifer Tress presents and signs You’re Not Pretty Enough. 7:00 p.m. at Stories Books and Cafe.

Friday 2/28: In partnership with the Level Ground Film Festival, Level Ground Festival of Authors presents Amy Hollingsworth, Tom Krattenmaker, Andrew Marin, and Karen Swallow Prior as they discuss and sign their books. Level Ground uses art to create safe space for dialogue about faith, gender, and sexuality. 10:00 a.m. Vroman’s Bookstore.

Xach Fromson is a native Angeleno and the co-host/co-founder of Shades & Shadows, a sci-fi/fantasy/horror/etc. reading series here in LA. He studied creative writing at California State University Northridge, where he worked on The Northridge Review. He received an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of California Riverside Palm Desert Low Residency program, and is finishing his first novel. He appeared at Dirty Laundry Lit's "Love Sucks" event in February 2013, and has stories published in "Halloween Tales" and "Winter Horror Days" from Omnium Gatherum press. And once, he slew a dragon.
