Yuppies Read

Now’s your chance to get your very own piece of David Foster Wallace. Today in New York, Sotheby’s art auction house is offering a small collection of letters the post-post-/meta-modern literary great once sent to his old friend JT Jackson, which Jackson sold to the Ransom Center in 2012. The correspondence includes everything from candid disclosures to such amusing quips as:

WAY MORE FUSS ABOUT THIS BOOK THAN I’D ANTICIPATED. ABOUT 26% OF FUSS IS WELCOME. AS YOU SAID YEARS AGO, “YUPPIES READ.”

Whether our fascination with writers’ personal lives reflects a pathological nosiness or simply a desire to better understand their work, someone will always rustle up a supply to meet the demand.
