We love The Riveter, an online and (now) print magazine that “publishes longform by women for everyone.”
A lot has changed since we first wrote about The Riveter. Co-founders and co-editors Joanna Demkiewicz and Kaylen Ralph hired a staff, published a print issue, developed a growing social media presence, and remain committed to publishing awesome weekly content, including Q&As (with Emma Straub and Belle writer Misan Sagay) and essays (here’s one: “Literature Is Instagram’s Latest Accessory” by Alana Levinson).
The Riveter‘s second print issue is out as of last week, and because of their development over the past year, they’re able to offer more in 02. They have a new department called “Longform as Lifestyle,” in which they pair a seemingly mundane lifestyle elements with really great texts. For example, Mary-Louise Parker (MARY-LOUISE PARKER) pairs three drinks with three Sharon Olds Poems. (Their aim is to prove that longform is not as inaccessible as some mistakenly think.) There’s also all of this in Issue 02:
- A photo essay that reimagines “black life”
- A feature of five emerging visual artists, including Beth Hoeckel from Rookie
- Three longform pieces
(Plus the regular stuff like book reviews and a summer reading canon.)
