Julia Fierro successfully launched her debut novel, Cutting Teeth, earlier this summer. A decade ago, she wasn’t so lucky with her first manuscript. Fierro arrived in New York City after graduating from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop only to face rejection. In Poets and Writers, she describes her self-imposed exile from the literary scene and her triumphant return building a community around the Sackett Street Writers Workshop.


Ian MacAllen is the Rumpus Deputy Editor and founder of English Kills Review an online literary magazine focused on books, authors, and New York City.
