Jynne Dilling Martin’s new collection of poems, We Mammals in Hospitable Times, was written in large part through a grant from the National Science Foundation, which sent the poet to the far reaches of Antarctica to shadow scientists and soak up history. In an interview with NPR, Martin shares highlights of her experiences, touching on days of 24-hour sunlight, life without creature comforts (but with excellent wi-fi), and encounters with the vastness of time and space in the frozen north.
