Billy Joel’s long career has garnered him perhaps more accolades than are possible to enumerate. In 2013, he received a Kennedy Center Honor—the equivalent of the French Legion of Honor or the English Knighthood—after a reception dinner hosted by President Obama and the First Lady. Joel is also a member of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame. His 1983 album, An Innocent Man, featured an homage to doo-wop called “For the Longest Time.” The beautiful a capella lifts us right out of our seats with its resonant harmonies and resolution.
