E-books are proving unpopular for independent bookstores. Amazon’s juggernaut Kindle device is only available from the online retailer, but independent bookstores can still sell e-books through devices like Kobo. But the Denver Post has found that customers of indie bookstores just aren’t buying e-books.

I try to support my local, surviving bookstores — of the non-B&N variety. It goes without saying that — what with the manipulation of author royalties, reviews, and general monopoly — I won’t buy from Amazon either. While a nice soft white e-reader might be great for midnight reads, I’m not prepared to buy Kindle, Nook, or Kobos. The latter two probably won’t make it, and all of them use DRM. When all is said and done, there’s nothing like lugging around a nice paperback and not worrying about batteries, online accounts, or the evil you’re doing by putting real people out of business.
