Inspired by a line in a Lucinda Williams song, “June Bug Versus Hurricane” places itself in that great tradition of Hillbilly Comics, though perhaps, in this age of scold and censure, it is more prudent to call it a Roots Comic. And though it flirts with concerns more readily identified as poetic—that is a soulful derangement of the senses assisted by a playful attention to language—it should also fit comfortably in that long line of gag-and-personality driven strips from Nancy to Peanuts.
