Oakland Book Festival 2016: Read, Debate, Celebrate!

Seven hours. Sixty events. Two hundred writers. That’s what you’ll find at the Oakland Book Festival this Sunday, May 22.

Michael Eric Dyson will be there. So will Mary Roach, Victor LaValle, Emily Raboteau, and Larissa MacFarquhar, to name just a few. They’ll be talking about labor movements, immigration, drug trafficking, altruism, censorship, prisons, restorative justice, labors of love, the dignity of work, and the future of the family. There will be booksellers, food trucks, performances for children, and a seven-hour marathon of super-fast three-minute readings.

Last year’s inaugural Oakland Book Festival was a standing-room-only success that galvanized the Bay Area literary community. This year’s festival promises to be even better. Be there! Sunday, May 22 from 11am–6pm at Frank Ogawa Plaza. The entire festival is free and open to the public.
