This week’s theatre recommendation is Chester Bailey at A.C.T.’s Strand Theatre. Academy award nominee David Strathairn stars in this two-hander with local actor Dan Clegg. Dr. Philip Cotton is called upon to treat Chester Bailey, a young man in a mental hospital who has been the victim of a horrific attack with a blow torch, blinding his eyes and reducing his hands to stumps. But Chester is in denial, and, through sheer imagination, has created a delusional world in which he believes his sight has returned and his hands are intact. Is Chester’s imaginary world to be preferred to so-called” reality?” What is the meaning of art and imagination? What is the value of blind faith? What, indeed, is truth? Joseph Dougherty’s new play is intelligent, fascinating, challenging, and touching. To read a review, click here. For further information, click here.
